Tumor Inside Tongue Before and After Surgery
This photo shows the case of a woman in her mid-forties who wound up with a benign tumor growing inside her tongue. This has been growing for five years before she finally looked for a doctor, and even though this brought no pain, one can only imagine the agony and unease of having a four fifths inch wide ball of fat tissue inside the tongue.
In the first panel, there’s the image of the tongue as it was before the surgery to remove the anomalous mass, and the second panel shows the tumor right as it’s being removed. Exams revealed the tumor was a lipoma, one of the most common types of benign neoplasms, the result of abnormal tissue growth.
The post-operatory process was pretty much uneventful, and even after 2 full years no signs of another lipoma growing was observed. This woman was lucky to get away with her tongue (or what was left of it) relatively intact. Just goes to show how troublesome the small problems can become if left unattended
